Beavers and Cubs attend Funday at Gilwell Park

52 Beavers, Cubs, Young Leaders and Leaders from 2nd Thatcham attended the Beaver and Cub Fun Day at Gilwell Park on 21st June. There were several activities for them to try including aerial runway, fair ground rides, climbing, caving, water slide, go-carts,hot wheels, archery, water rockets and more. The Beavers and Cubs enjoyed a full day and had a great time. In several cases they were trying things for the first time.

On their return to 2nd Thatcham HQ everyone enjoyed a cooked meal, played games and watched a DVD before bedtime. The Beavers slept over in the hut, and the Cubs in a big tent in the garden. After breakfast of bacon rolls it was time to close the sleepover and go home. A great time was had by all including the leaders, or so they tell me!

Beavers and Cubs visit Portsmouth Historic Docks.

 

Beavers, Cubs and their Leaders from 2nd Thatcham Scout Group enjoyed a great day visiting HMS Victory and HMS Warrior in Portsmouth Historic Dockyard. They also had a tour of the harbour and were able to see two aircraft carriers and many other Navy ships.

Great fun was had in the hands on area called Action Stations, where the young people were able to have a go at landing helicopters in a simulator, amongst many other hands on exhibitions. The weather was superb.

St George's Day Parade and Service

On Sunday 20th April 2008 Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Leaders from 2nd Thatcham joined with members of 1st Thatcham, 1st Cold Ash, 1st Hermitage and 1st Woolhampton Scout Groups, plus Axford Explorer Unit, for the annual St George's Day Parade and Service. After the Service photos were taken of all the young people and Leaders who attended.

Beaver and Cub Winter Sleepover

In January Beavers and Cubs from 2nd Thatcham took part in a Sleepover at Oxenwood Outdoor Education Centre. The Cubs stayed for 2 nights and the Beavers for 1 night. The Cubs enjoyed a night hike in a blizzard on the Friday night, and returned to the centre for hot dogs and hot chocolate.

The Beavers arrived on Saturday morning and got themselves settled in. After lunch everyone went to Crofton pumping station, and then to the windmill at Wilton. On Sunday morning they all had the opportunity to try out the archery and a fantastic climbing wall.

2nd Thatcham Scouts win Three Towers Hike Scout Event

With nearly 300 competitors walking in three different events, the Scout Group saw its first win in the 25km Scout section event, with a team from the Scout Troop winning their event in a time of 4 hours 36 minutes.

Well done to Adam, Alec and Huw, who each win a portable cooker, plus a GPS for the Troop. The event, held on 5th April, saw the Troop enter 3 teams into the Scout event. All of the Scouts completed the event.

The date for the next Three Towers Hike is 4th April 2009.
