Our Cubs are boys aged between eight and ten and a half
years old. They also play games at their Meetings, but tend to spend more
time on activities which count towards their Badges. There are five brand
new Challenge Badges that a Cub can earn once he is invested, the Outdoor
Challenge, Creative Challenge, Fitness Challenge, Global Challenge and
the Caring Challenge. The highest award a Cub can now earn is the Chief
Scout's Silver Award. As well as these, there are 32 Activity Badges which
Cubs enjoy working for; these include the Hobbies Badge, Athletics, Animal
Carer, Emergency Aid, Sports Enthusiast, to name but a few. There are
also five Staged Badges which can be earned by Beavers, Cub and Scouts.
These all provide challenges for youngsters, whatever their interests. |
| During the year the Cub Pack will also enjoy evenings
away from the HQ, with trips to the local swimming pool, bowling alley,
and Thatcham Discovery Centre. They also have visits from interesting
local people. The Cubs often work for several weeks on one particular
badge, giving all the boys in the Pack the chance to complete all the
activities to earn that badge. |
Every summer the Cub Pack takes part in a weekend Camp.
This is normally held on a local farm, and is very popular with the Cubs.
They learn to put up tents, and to do some simple cooking. Sometimes,
they use the time on camp to work for an activity badge, such as the Explorer.
This badge involves learning to build a bivouac, lighting a fire to make
a hot drink, using a compass, and going on a hike. |
The Cub uniform is a green sweatshirt and the Group
scarf, with navy activity trousers.
There are usually around twenty five Cubs in our Pack.
There is a waiting list to join the Pack, which is normally full of boys
coming up from Beavers when they are eight. |
